“VAST has been the arena where my prayers have been answered. “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”

VAST
Vermont Academy of Spiritual Training

There are those among us who hunger to DIVE IN
to break open the Word of scripture,
who yearn to deepen their spiritual identity,
who seek to enrich their understanding of Christian history and theology,
who want language with which to testify to their faith,
who are excited about being Church and how it all intersects with becoming a fearless disciple

of Jesus Christ in today’s world.

For over 25 years, laypersons in the Vermont Conference have answered that hunger by enrolling in this three year program -

VAST HAS MADE A VAST DIFFERENCE IN THEM – FROM THE INSIDE OUT!

“I have learned so much about Christianity, the Bible and religion in general. But even more, I have learned about “me” and the many ways God can use me in God’s world.”

“Found! A group of kindred spirits! It accelerates joy in studying Jesus and the Bible. The rest of the story is found in seeking answers to all the long wondered questions.”

VAST offers in-depth study of the Bible, basic theological concepts and the nature of one's individual calling and spiritual journey. The courses are not designed to equip a person for ordination but to enrich laity as they seek to deepen their own spiritual identity and calling to Christian ministry. VAST is also designed to assist those called to Licensed Ministry and Certification as Church Educators in the UCC.

“I spent my life going through the motions without understanding anything about my faith. VAST has brought me knowledge, understanding and the ability to share my faith with others.”

VAST offers the opportunity for open enrollment, i.e. a student may enter at the beginning of years 1, 2 or 3.
An applicant must be prepared to devote the time necessary to do the homework assigned which requires a substantial amount of reading and other assignments. An 80% attendance is required in order to graduate from the program.

The cost of the program is $400.00 per year. One half of the tuition ($200) is due prior to the 1st class of each semester. Checks are payable to the Vermont Conference, U.C.C., 36 North Main Street, Randolph, VT 05060. Additional money will be needed to purchase textbooks.

Scholarship help may be available from your local church and/or association.

“What have I learned in VAST? More knowledge about the Bible, Church History, and current theology. A chance to discuss ethical issues with others. And more importantly, a Christianity I can believe in – a thoughtful, intelligent faith.”
