The church was organized on July 15, 1785, the first in the area.  Six men and two women entered the covenant at this time. The church building we currently worship in was built in 1803.  At this time, there was only one church that had more members in the state--that was Middlebury.  The members took satisfaction in owning their own farms, in having subdued the wilderness, and in having built comfortable homes for their families.  Their children were learning to read and write. The church is now a "Just Peace Church" and an "Open and Affirming Church".
